A house re-imagined
Highfield Retreat has a new chapter
Refreshed, refined and built for the way people actually want to travel now — welcome to Highfield Retreat in Hepburn Springs. Set right at the edge of the forest, it's difficult to pin down exactly what makes this small hotel feel so different. It might be the beds, engineered for long lie-ins. It might be the help-yourself pantry for a midnight raid. It could just as easily be the mix of old-house character and newer design touches, or simply that there are only six rooms to begin with. Whatever it is, keeping things small has let us go big on the details that matter.
Mornings start properly, with a breakfast that goes well beyond toast and instant coffee — proper crockery, careful service, and the best local produce each season allows. Afterwards, there's no shortage of ways to fill the day: disappear into the Library with something from our shelves, argue over a vintage board game, or take a chilled glass of wine into the garden if the weather cooperates. If you'd rather head out, our team can point you toward the Hepburn Bathhouse and its warm mineral waters, a handful of excellent wineries, the weekend farmers' markets, or simply pack you a picnic basket and send you off toward the nearest lake or forest clearing.
Galleries, boutique shops, cafés and restaurants sit only minutes away, and Hepburn Springs' central position in Victoria means most of the region's country towns are within a 20–45 minute drive.
